Winter Wonderland

The 2007-2008 winter has been the wettest winter in years for central Illinois. I haven't seen this much snow in my entire life...and neither has my pug. This being Chewy's first winter we thought it would be fun to let him enjoy the snow for a few minutes. With just a few inches of snow on the ground, Chewy had the best 10 minutes of his life pouncing in the mounds of white wonder.

After a few moments he began investigating with his squished little nose and came up with a faceful of white whiskers. The picture is priceless and by his expression it tasted pretty good too.

As a reminder to all pug owners...Pugs have a very low tolerance for extreme temperatures, cold and hot. They should not be exposed to extreme heat or cold for very long. While the snow is fun for a pug pup, remember to dress them warm and limit your time outdoors.

Puggles, Chugs, and Buggs Oh My!

In this day and age everyone has to have the hot ticket item. These days, the hot ticket item comes with the "hybrid" label. When you think of hybrid, what comes to mind? Maybe a car, or a vegetable? How about a dog? Yep, I said a dog. Today's world is full of all kind of fads but none quite as interesting (some may say disturbing) as hybrid dogs, also known as designer dogs.

A hybrid dog is the result of two different dog breeds being bred to produce a new breed of dog, all of which are not recognized by the AKC and often frowned upon. Along with the new breed of dog comes a peculiar list of names to match them. You may have heard of a puggle (the result of a pug and beagle breeding), but what about a Pug-a-Pom, Chug, or a Bugg? The list goes on and on and not just with the pug breed. In recent years the labradoodle has become one of the biggest trends in hybrid dogs.

You'll find this can be a hot topic among dog enthusiasts, which is completely understandable. When purchasing a purebred dog from a reputable breeder you are doing so knowing exactly what kind of dog you are getting, how it will fit into your lifestyle and more importantly how it will behave. This is where the problem comes in. When two dog breeds are mixed the result is a dog that can have characteristics of both breeds, the good and the bad.

Regardless of how you feel about the issue, it's important to research the breed of dog you are bringing into your home. If you must have a designer dog, make sure that you are ready for the traits of both breeds. Most importantly, no matter what dog you bring home whether it be pure, hybrid, or a mutt, they deserve all the love in the world.

Meet Chewy!

Posh Pugs --- it's all in the name! Posh [adjective] meaning sumptuously furnished or appointed; luxurious; smart and fashionable. Pugs [noun] a small sturdy dog of an ancient breed originating in China, having a snub nose, wrinkled face, squarish body, short smooth hair, and curled tail aka the cutest dog on Earth!

We are a pug-lover owned online store that offers unique apparel and gifts for pug dog breeds and pug owners. It is our goal to provide original and creative products for pugs and the people who love them inspired by the pug dog breed's unique personalities.

Our journey began a few weeks ago when we adopted this lovely little fella you see here and affectionately named him Chewy. Not because he chews on everything in the house --- well that's not completely true, he does tend to chew quite a bit. His name came about because our oldest son is obsessed with Star Wars and wanted to name the dog Anniken Skywalker. In the end we comprimised with Chewy after the beloved Chewbacca, although he looks more like an Ewok.At just 8 weeks old he has been the perfect addition to our family of 4. Chewy is affectionate, spunky, and tad mischevious. We hope you'll come back often and watch this little guy grow with our family.
